Report: FIFA President Sepp Blatter May Not Resign
Sepp Blatter is reconsidering his decision to resign as FIFA president, according to a report from the Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Sonntag.
Blatter announced earlier this month he would step down as the head of FIFA, presumably because he feared the U.S. Department of Justice was closing in on him after arrests of numerous FIFA execs in the organization’s corruption and fraud scandal.
FIFA is supposed to set a date for a new presidential election next month—Blatter was re-elected for a fifth term in May—but according to the Swiss report, it’s unclear if any of the new candidates will be able to command a majority vote. Blatter, reportedly, still has the support of many Asian and African nations, “support” being a dubious word in light of the arrests made because of bribes and fraud.
At this point, it looks like Blatter will be president of the cockroaches after Judgment Day.
