Iowa Knocks Off #1 Michigan State, Who Scored An Own Goal
We love these incredible basketball plays, so here’s Michigan State’s Alvin Ellis scoring on his own basket while trying to deflect an Iowa inbound pass. It’s emblematic of the Spartans’ rough night in Iowa City; they fell to the Hawkeyes 83-70....
Gust Of Wind Scores A Crazy Goal From Distance
Wha ... but how ... so the wind just ... huh?...
Soccer Lady Has Absolutely Zero Aiming Skills, Scores Awful Own Goal
The announcer had the correct reaction to Helén Eke’s foot mysteriously turning into jelly upon contact with the ball: “Nej nej nej!” As did Eke, who attempted to tear off her ponytail, no doubt to disguise her appearance so that she could creep out of the stadium and hide under a rock for the next ...
The First Goal Of The Premier League Season Is ... An Own Goal
Here it is, the day we’ve all been waiting for: the return of the EPL. Manchester United-Tottenham is our opener, and though Spurs started brightly, all their good work was undone thanks to a terrible pass by Nabil Bentaleb. It wasn’t the prettiest season-christening goal, but we’ll take it....
No Hops-Having Keeper Lets Pass Bounce Over His Head For An Own Goal
You had three options here, goalkeeper: 1) run out to the incoming back pass and meet it right after it bounces, 2) step back a few steps and take the ball off your chest after it took that towering though perfectly predictable skip off the turf, 3) loiter around in the box and find yourself standin...
This Is One Dopey Own Goal
With the Paulistão and other state soccer leagues spoken for it’s time to fire up a new Brazilian Serie A season, and it looks like Grêmio might be a bit rusty. Here’s defender Frickson Erazo managing to team up with Pedro Geromel to chip one over their own keeper’s head for a beautiful own goal tha...
German Player's Perfect Strike From Center Circle Makes Great Own Goal
It takes a special kind of calmness to lob a ball from the edge of the center circle with enough accuracy to find the back of the net. Unfortunately, Christoph Kramer so calmly played this pass because he expected it to find his own keeper, not sail over his teammate's head and into the goal....
Sunderland Defender's Exquisite Volley Makes For Wonderful Own Goal
Above, Sunderland's Santiago Vergini shows off some impressive technical ability as he takes a bouncing ball and cracks it past the keeper. It would've been worthy of his personal highlight reel, if it hadn't been aimed at his own net. But for an own goal, this was a beaut....
Brazil Score First Goal Of World Cup—In Their Own Goal
This certainly isn't how Brazil planned to start things off. Croatia took a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the match when Marcelo knocked the ball into his own goal....
Steven Stamkos Scores On His Own Empty Net During Delayed Penalty
Though the Tampa Bay Lightning were on a delayed penalty, they still somehow surrendered a goal last night. Steven Stamkos is a scoring machine that doesn't have time to distinguish nets, dammit....
Chinese Team Works Together On Slapstick Own Goal
Via Dirty Tackle, the saddest and funniest own goal we've seen in a long time....
Goalie Scores Own Goal With Huge Assist From Mother Nature
Most of the more common own goals you'll see are the result of miscommunication or some freak bounce that happens too quickly for the goalie to react. Not so in this recent match from Italy's Serie D. ...
Spurs Suffered An Own Goal When Aaron Lennon Kicked The Ball Off Gareth Bale's Face
Tottenham Hotspur holds a 2-1 advantage over Liverpool as of this writing, and Spurs players Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale are responsible for all three goals; they each have one for their own team, and they contributed to put the ball in their own net in an ill-fated attempt to clear a Steven Gerr...
This Is The Worst Own Goal Ever
It's from last week's Circiuma-America tilt in Brazil's second division. Circiuma keeper Michel Alves makes a pretty nifty save before getting overwhelmed by all sorts of derp. Only thing better might be the announcer's manufactured excitement....
Brighton Conceded Three Own Goals In Its FA Cup Match Today, And The Third Was A Work Of Art
Brighton actually outscored Liverpool 4-3 in today's 5th round FA Cup match at Anfield (one punctuated by this streaker). Unfortunately for Seagulls supporters, three of those goals were directed into their own net....
Here's Aston Villa's Ridiculous Own Goal That Put QPR Up 2-0
It's been another mediocre season for Aston Villa, and no play may characterize the struggles of the claret and blue squad than this play, in which Stephen Warnock cleanly lands a header directly into his own net. Villa landed a goal of their own late in the first half to cut QPR's advantage to 2-...
Ilya Kovalchuk Scored A 180-Foot Own Goal, And They Credited It To Cam Ward
When I saw the scoresheet for yesterday's Devils/Hurricanes game, I mostly ran around in circles yelling "Goalie goal!" over and over again. For fans of novelty highlights, goalie goals are up there with unassisted triple plays as one of the rarest and most valuable sporting occurrences....
Strikers Spend Their Lives Dreaming Of A Score As Pretty As This Own Goal
Welcome to YouTube, Festus Baise. The Nigerian defender, playing for Citizen in the Hong Kong first division, went reverse scorpion on his own net. Setting aside the unfortunate result, what was he hoping to accomplish? He was either going for the most stylish clearance of all time, or had a mid-a...
