Assistant coach Marco Donadel will take over as interim head coach, which the club said would be the only change to the remaining coaching staff.
Montreal hired Courtois, 46, on Jan. 9, 2024, after he spent two seasons as head coach of the Columbus Crew 2. That club won the MLS NEXT Pro championship in 2022.
Montreal is 0-4-1 (1 point) following a 3-0 loss to Nashville SC on Saturday. Montreal hasn't scored a goal in more than a month when it lost 3-2 to Atlanta United FC in the season opener on Feb. 22.
Last season, Montreal finished eighth in the Eastern Conference (11-13-10, 43 points) and lost to Atlanta on penalty kicks in a wild-card playoff match.
Donadel will debut as interim head coach when Montreal visits the Chicago Fire FC on Saturday. Montreal has another road game, this one in Columbus, before it makes its home season debut on April 12 against Charlotte FC.
