Browns CB K’Waun Williams Appeals Suspension After Being Told He Needs Ankle Surgery
Photo: Michael Conroy/ [object Object] On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns suspended cornerback K’Waun Williams for two weeks for “multiple violations of team rules,” along with a fine of one game check. Although the team didn’t specify the reason, one report says that the punishment stems from Williams sitting out part of a preseason game because of an ankle injury.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, there were conflicting stories about whether Williams informed the team of his injury:
The Browns suspended Williams and fined him for “for multiple violations of team rules” after he refused to play the full game in Green Bay. He also told the club he was retiring and didn’t cite the ankle as a reason, a source told cleveland.com.
The next day, he rescinded his retirement plans and informed the club he didn’t want to play because of the ankle.
But a source close to Williams said the nickelback informed the Browns Friday night in Green Bay that he couldn’t take on a full load of work because of the sore ankle.
The cornerback saw an independent doctor at the Cleveland Clinic yesterday and was told that he’d need surgery for his ankle.
Williams’s agency released a statement, attributing the suspension to “a lack of communication and understanding of all parties involved.” Williams plans to appeal the punishment.
