Ex-MLB Pitcher Livan Hernandez Files For Bankruptcy

Former MLB pitcher Livan Hernandez has filed for bankruptcy in federal court in South Florida. It was first reported today by the Miami Herald.

The 42-year-old submitted paperwork on June 30. He requested Chapter 13 bankruptcy and estimated his assets were worth between $0 and $50,000. Hernandez estimated his liabilities were between $500,000 and $1 million. The list of creditors includes banks, credit card companies, and the IRS.

Hernandez’s last major-league appearance was in 2012 for the Milwaukee Brewers, but he didn’t officially retire until 2014. He was a rookie when the Florida Marlins won the World Series in 1997, and played parts of his career with the Washington Nationals.
