Rockies Reliever Adam Ottavino Really Crapped It Up Yesterday
Rockies relief pitcher Adam Ottavino entered the seventh inning of Sunday’s game with two outs, two men on, and a two-run lead. He walked Dodgers second baseman Austin Barnes, and then everything fell apart.
Ottavino threw four goddamn wild pitches over the span of two innings. His first two, in the seventh, put Colorado down 7-6. In the eighth, he surrendered two more runs.
Teammate Jake McGee was actually responsible for two of those runs, but Ottavino ended up allowing six runs total—because of a Cody Bellinger homer and Kenley Jansen RBI double—as the Rockies lost, 12-6. Here’s how he felt about his appearance after the game:
“You can call it what you want. It was pathetic,” Ottavino said. “I have to do better.”
Yeah, that sounds about right.
