Eric Wedge Released From Hospital After “Very Mild Stroke”

Seattle manager Eric Wedge was hospitalized before Monday's series opener against his former team, the Cleveland Indians, due to light-headedness he experienced during batting practice. Wedge was released today and is expected to make a full recovery from what doctors believe was a " very mild stroke." Wedge is 45 years old.

The Mariners expect Wedge to return "sooner than later," but it's unclear when exactly that will be.

Wedge, the Mariners manager since 2011, won't be in uniform for the Mariners' upcoming four-game series against Minnesota and he won't go on the next road trip to Boston and Baltimore.

"What he needs to do is stay home for a short period of time. We expect him to be back sooner than later," general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "He's excited. He sounds normal. I talked to him and it sounds like everything is fine and he is ready to roll.

Wedge will be further evaluated over the next 10 days and bench coach Robby Thompson will continue to fill in.
