Chuck Pagano Lost Badly And Forgot Which Team He Was Playing
Photo: Jae C. Hong/ [object Object] The NFL is searching for a new Jeff Fisher, now that the actual Jeff Fisher doesn’t have a job. So who in the league coasts off his reputation and underachieves in unprecedented ways? Saints head coach Sean Payton is a good candidate, given that his team’s gone 7-9 for three straight seasons, but the Colts’ Chuck Pagano is making a run for the title by getting his ass kicked by the Rams, 46-9, and then crediting the “49ers” after the game.
Forgetting information about your opponent is a classic Fisher move. At least Pagano got head coach Sean McVay’s name right:
QB Andrew Luck could miss a significant portion of the season as he recovers from shoulder surgery, which is why Scott Tolzien was out there evoking memories of Curtis Painter. Tolzien threw two pick-sixes, one on his first pass of the game, as he went 9-for-18 with 128 yards.
The Colts eventually turned to Jacoby Brissett, who they acquired in a trade just last week, but I can’t believe there wasn’t another quarterback out there all offseason who would have been a better stopgap than Tolzien, not threatened Luck’s starting status, and been able to pick up whatever passes for Indianapolis’s offensive scheme, given that OC Rob Chudzinski’s strategy appears to be “run once and give up.” Oh well.
