The Browns Ran A Weird Play And It Somehow Worked
The winless Browns need to be innovative if they want to possibly beat the Cowboys today, so they ran a play out of this very weird formation a minute into the game. It worked surprisingly well.
Cleveland’s offense lined up in some weird mutation of the double stack formation and a swinging gate play (you may remember the Colts screwing up one of those last season). The Browns had only three linemen protecting quarterback Cody Kessler, while running back Isaiah Crowell ran a seam route. The play successfully flustered the Cowboys’ defense, because Crowell was left wide open and caught a pass for a 44-yard gain.
This being the Browns, the drive faltered at the Cowboys’ 13-yard line, and the offense settled for a Cody Parkey field goal.
