Ex-NFL QB Jay Cutler gets jail time in DUI plea deal

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler is scheduled to report to jail in Tennessee on Sept. 29 after accepting a plea deal in a case involving DUI and gun charges.
Cutler, 42, entered a guilty plea to driving under the influence in court on Tuesday. He was arrested Oct. 17, 2024, after his Dodge Ram truck rear-ended a GMC in Franklin, Tenn.
He was sentenced to four days in the Williamson County Jail. He also must pay a $350 fine, serve one year of unsupervised probation and attend a DUI safety class. His driver's license also was revoked.
Cutler initially was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, implied consent, possession of a handgun while under the influence, and failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, according to police.
Police also said he offered the GMC driver $2,000 not to call authorities and tried to flee the scene.
A loaded gun was found in the truck, and Cutler agreed to surrender the weapon under terms of the deal.
Cutler was drafted No. 11 overall out of Vanderbilt by the Broncos in 2006 and spent 12 seasons in the league with Denver (2006-08), the Chicago Bears (2009-16) and Miami Dolphins (2017). He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2008.
