The Jets Dragged Andy Dalton All Over The Field And Still Couldn't Win
Photo: Bill Kostroun/ [object Object] By the end of today’s game, Andy Dalton and the turf were close pals. The New York Jets’ defense sacked the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback seven times, the most in one game in Dalton’s career. Despite that, he still tore up the opposing coverage as the Bengals won, 23-22.
Defensive linemen Muhammad Wilkerson, Leonard Williams, and Steve McLendon tore through Cincinnati’s offensive line with ease, putting together six sacks among the three of them. (Linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin had one, too.) All their work was nullified, however, because Darrelle Revis and the Jets’ secondary could not stop A.J. Green from catching pretty much anything thrown his way.
Green caught 12 passes on 13 targets for 180 yards and a touchdown for the game. Being on Revis Island clearly didn’t faze the receiver:
On the catch below, it didn’t really matter who was covering Green. This was all due to his effort:
Dalton finished the game 23-for-30 for 366 yards, presumably with a higher appreciation of Green than ever before.
